If a hotel or factory on the Thai coast observes changing conductivity, first establish the water source, sampling method and location of the change. This is a conditional project scenario, not a claim that coastal Thai tap water has a general salinity problem. Municipal supply, wells, tanker deliveries and mixed sources can require different treatment decisions.
Build a comparable record
Use a consistent sampling point and method. Record the date, source, temperature, EC unit, temperature-compensation setting and any recent tank refill or source switch. Name the locations clearly: building inlet, raw-water tank outlet and RO feed. Readings from different locations should not be combined into one trend without explanation.
1 mS/cm equals 1000 μS/cm. If a meter displays estimated TDS, record its conversion factor. At 1000 μS/cm, factors of 0.5 and 0.7 would display approximately 500 and 700 mg/L respectively. This is a meter-conversion example, not an analysis of the actual ions. Increased conductivity alone does not demonstrate excess sodium or chloride.
| Question | Information to obtain | Decision supported |
|---|---|---|
| Is salt content changing? | EC history and representative ion analysis | Source investigation and desalination need |
| Is scaling likely? | Hardness, alkalinity and design-specific analysis | Pretreatment and recovery comparison |
| Is storage introducing problems? | Source, turbidity, tank condition and relevant testing | Pretreatment and hygiene controls |
| Is the change seasonal? | Repeat records and source-switch log | Defined design envelope |
Screening measurements help identify changes; project analysis supports equipment selection. Ask the designer to identify the feed-water dataset used, the limiting conditions and the additional samples needed. A single low-conductivity result cannot support a year-round performance promise.
Make quotation conditions explicit
An RO output figure needs its feed temperature, water composition, product-water objective and operating limits. DuPont's technical guidance describes how operating conditions affect performance. Ask for a calculation under the project's defined conditions rather than extrapolating from one advertised nominal flow.
For multiple water sources, request a switching procedure, permitted adjustments, protection logic and instructions for operation outside the agreed envelope. Confirm concentrate disposal or reuse separately. A coastal location does not establish permission to discharge.
Prepare one enquiry pack
Include the sampling log, analysis, intended use, daily and peak demand, available inlet pressure, electrical supply and drainage arrangements. Mark unknowns as questions rather than filling them with assumed values. The RO equipment page can support an initial selection discussion; it is not a statement of local supply or installation availability in Thailand.
